Chapter 3: Academic Planning

Starting and completing a degree program takes some serious planning. You have to choose a program, decide which general education courses and electives to take, figure out how many classes you can realistically take while juggling home, professional, and social obligations. If you are using any form of tuition assistance you have to make sure you’ve met your funding source’s registration guidelines…and the list keeps going and going and going and you get the point!

Sounds like a lot, huh? It is, but that is what your Academic Advisor is here for! We can (and want!) to help you set and meet your academic goals. Academic planning is going to be an integral part of any academic goal you set!

The next pages of myGuide will help you make sense of the degree selection process, explain why general education courses are some of the most important courses in your program, break down the basics of course scheduling and will introduce you to some of the things you can expect (and some things you shouldn’t expect) in your classes so that you can more accurately gauge how many courses you should register for and successfully complete.

And remember, your Academic Advisor is just a phone call, email, or chat away in case you want to talk it out!
