Professor Tips!

The Program Director of General Studies, Kathryn Broyles, recently provided her feedback to what makes a successful first year experience and her keys to success for any student navigating through their first year.

 The key to success in your first year is time-management .

Students often underestimate the time it takes to do the work of an online class, mistaking flexibility for a lessening of intensity. However, online classes are just as demanding as regular college classes, particularly at fully accredited universities such as

AMU/APU, so not taking too many classes, and taking time to plan weekly are key to succeeding in the first year and earning a GPA to be proud of.

 Following directions carefully is also an important key to success. Overlooking details for an assignment can communicate carelessness to professors and may significantly impact a student’s grade.

 Taking the time to revise written work (all work, whether formal or informal) can not only impact your grade, but impact the feedback you get from professors and classmates. In the online setting, this feedback is crucial to learning, so making sure what you’ve written is understood completely the first time is very important!
